Across all therapeutic orientations, the piece that has the most healing potential for the client is the relationship between the client and therapist. The therapeutic relationship is unique and can be very powerful. I see my role in our relationship as supporting and deepening your journey of self-understanding so that you can more gracefully navigate life’s challenges, find greater meaning and clarity, and tap into your inner resources to meet your goals. Depending on your unique needs, I may draw upon many different modalities and interventions to best assist you.
In addition to this foundational approach, my clinical orientation can be described as:
- Psychodynamic – I pay attention to your relationships, past and present, and consider how they shape you today.
- Intersubjective – I recognize that there is a real relationship between myself and the people I am sitting with for therapy, which is being created and changed as we engage. This interpersonal loop effects the course of therapy.
- Critical – I understand that the social and political systems we are a part of have a reciprocal relationship with our psychological states; systems impact our internal landscapes, and our internal landscapes impact social and political systems.
- Imaginal/Transpersonal – I trust that there is a mysterious element to our lives and our inner worlds, which if engaged with, can help illuminate and support meaning-making and psychological development. Art, dreams, images, and spiritual experiences are an important part of the human experience and can be useful to engage with in therapy.
I have a background as an educator, advocate, farmer, and yoga teacher, and I draw on my experiences in these fields for my work as a therapist. I am also a partner and parent, so I resonate with the unique experiences of new parents working to shift generational patterns in relationships.

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your therapy sessions will cost. Your fee will be set according to a sliding scale, in collaboration with your therapist, prior to your first counseling session. Total costs depend upon the number of sessions you choose to utilize.
If you have private health insurance and we are not in-network with your plan, please be aware that your costs for therapy may be less by using an in-network provider. This will depend upon your plan's deductible amounts and co-payments. In some cases, counseling at Shine a Light is less costly than using private insurance.
If you hope to use "out of network" benefits through your private insurance, please be aware that many plans will not reimburse for services provided by trainees. Please request an Associate level therapists for out-of-network billing.
