Hello! I’m Jackie and I am a Bay Area Native, first-generation college graduate, and Latinx MFT Trainee who is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I embarked on this path in 2019 as an Elementary after-school teacher in a primarily low SES, multi-cultural, and underrepresented community. I made it my mission to pursue a higher education to work with people in these communities at a higher capacity.
Life can present many obstacles, and I aim to offer you a space where your voice is heard, your experiences validated, and where you can learn new strategies to navigate challenges. I come from a trauma-informed and person-centered approach, I incorporate various techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and others tailored to your needs. In recognizing each person’s individuality, my approach is flexible, adapting to your unique circumstances. My priority is to create an environment that feels welcoming, safe, and meaningful, however, this may look for you!
Some values guiding my practice include curiosity, empathy, courage, open-mindedness, trust, improvement, and well-being. – I believe that each person knows themself best and that I am there to help navigate any barriers to one’s well-being. Therapy allows someone else to hold the “heavy stuff” for even just a moment and reassures them of their companionship on their journey. It’s about validation and empowerment, equipping you with the resilience to navigate life’s challenges. I trust in the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit, recognizing their collective influence on our demeanor and interactions. The more attuned we are to ourselves, the more harmonious our connections with others become.

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your therapy sessions will cost. Your fee will be set according to a sliding scale, in collaboration with your therapist, prior to your first counseling session. Total costs depend upon the number of sessions you choose to utilize.
If you have private health insurance and we are not in-network with your plan, please be aware that your costs for therapy may be less by using an in-network provider. This will depend upon your plan's deductible amounts and co-payments. In some cases, counseling at Shine a Light is less costly than using private insurance.
If you hope to use "out of network" benefits through your private insurance, please be aware that many plans will not reimburse for services provided by trainees. Please request an Associate level therapists for out-of-network billing.
