Shelly Adams
MFT Trainee
I believe that compassion and caring relationships are profoundly healing. I embody this in service toward greater self-awareness, emotional and social well-being and healing. I offer a warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space where you can safely explore your inner experiences, deepen connection to yourself and others and cultivate meaningful change.
My approach is rooted in the understanding that healing occurs not only through insight, but also through the wisdom of the body, emotions, relationships, and creative expression. Drawing from Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Hakomi, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Creative Arts Therapy and spiritual practice, I help clients gently uncover patterns of protection, disconnection, and stuckness while accessing their innate capacity for growth, resilience, and self-compassion as with as alignment with essence and purpose.
I work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Together, we explore the ways past experiences may continue to shape present challenges, while cultivating greater awareness of thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and relational dynamics.
I specialize in child led play therapy and expressive arts when working with children. Play offers children a natural language for expression, allowing them to explore challenges and develop new ways of relating to themselves and others within a safe and supportive environment. “Play is a child’s language and toys are their words” (Gary Landreth).
For teens, I provide a space where they can authentically explore identity, relationships, emotional struggles, and life transitions. Using developmentally appropriate, collaborative, and strengths-based approaches, I help teens build self-awareness, emotional resilience, healthy coping skills, and confidence in navigating life’s complexities.
Couples therapy is a central focus of my practice. Utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy and attachment-based approaches, I help partners identify recurring patterns that create distance, conflict, or disconnection. Together, we work to understand the deeper emotions and unmet needs beneath these cycles, fostering greater emotional safety, vulnerability, and connection. My goal is to help couples strengthen communication, repair ruptures, rebuild trust, and create more fulfilling and secure relationships.
