Julianne Weinzimmer

Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

AMFT #148722

Hello! My name is Julianne Weinzimmer and I provide individual therapy for teens and adults
(ages 14+). I also work with intimate partners. I view therapy as an opportunity to provide you
with support, warmth, and validation as we explore the life you’ve lived, the person you’ve
become, any challenges you face, and the future you seek to create. I believe in everyone’s
capacity for personal and relational fulfilment and to feel empowered, no matter what you have
gone through! In fact, our experiences with trauma, loneliness, hardship, mental health struggles,
discrimination, and not feeling like we belong all shape us into richly complex, resilient humans
deserving of love and acceptance.

My therapeutic approach is constructivist and postmodern. What this means is that I view you as
the sole expert on yourself, your life. We each experience reality differently. My job is to learn
how you view and relate to others and to yourself, what meanings you attach to your
experiences, and what you value and want in life.

There are many ways for us to develop and work toward your personal goals. Some I commonly
use are:

  •  Exploring the influence of early caregiver experiences on current relationship patterns
  •  Mind/Body connection: focus on bodily sensations and internal reactions to thoughts
  • Cognitive behavioral techniques such as mindfulness and healing within nature
  • Uncovering and embracing innermost feelings
  • Challenging societal norms or messages that feel limiting, harmful, or lead to self-blameor shame (around gender, sex, race, and so on)
  • Reframing your life story to highlight strengths and your capacity to change any behavioral or thought patterns you feel stuck in

I grew up in the Bay Area, got my PhD in Sociology in North Carolina, and spent 13 years as a
Sociology Professor in the Midwest, studying and teaching race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality
from a feminist, intersectional, and multiculturally informed lens. I offer a safe, non-judgmental
therapeutic space for everyone, but my specialization is life processing and empowerment for
people from marginalized and underrepresented backgrounds.
Areas of focus:

  •  Relationships and partnerships: interpersonal and communication skills; consensual non
    monogamy/polyamory
  • Multicultural: processing Black, Latinx, Indigenous, AAPI, ethnic/religious minority,
bi/multiracial, and immigrant life experiences and identities
  • Gender and sexuality: LGBTQIA+, sex positivity, gender spectrum, women-identifying
  • Neurodivergence
  • Self-esteem/body image
  •  Adulthood transitions: envisioning and developing life goals; building independence
  • Trauma
