I hold empathy as the core of my therapeutic work; the desire and willingness to hear and understand the experience of another. I believe this process of being heard can be profoundly healing, and it can also lead to fuller, more understandable and more holistic senses of self. I work from a deeply client-centered lens, holding you as the expert in your experience and holding myself as a fellow support along your healing journey.
My values and practice are greatly informed by my own ongoing, healing journey, and deeply through the inspiring wisdoms of liberation psychology, abolitionist feminism, critical pedagogies and creative expression. I view my work of supporting folx in healing wounds, connecting with their own inherent wisdom and communal support, and disconnecting from unwanted social conditioning as my path of dismantling systems of oppression. Likewise, I work intentionally to challenge power dynamics, especially those historically built into the field of therapy, so I will center your subjective experience, reality and needs as the primary focus. As a way of hopefully creating a sense of trust, I like to share some of my identities I find relevant. I identify as a neurodivergent, queer and genderqueer, white, mainly-able bodied, cisgender man. And I feel passionate about supporting others’ expansive identities in all forms.
My clinical training specialized in Gestalt therapy, which is a practice based in Buddhist principles, and aimed at growing mindful awareness of the present moment. My specific lens supports this through somatic and sensory-based focus, building awareness of our boundaries and how we meet the world (physically, mentally, emotionally), and by inviting recognition of our multitudes of complex inner Parts of the whole Self. My practice also focuses heavily on relational work, which means using the therapeutic relationship to explore aspects and dynamics of your experience.
